There are lots of great places to eat on Holbox but bring pesos as only some restaurants take credit cards. The two ATM’s on the island will gladly dispense money with a Mexican bank account.

La Parrilla de Jaun accepts credit cards and their food is amazing! We had perfectly cooked ostrich – medium rare, and a light coconut curry seafood lasagna with homemade pasta. This restaurant is located 2 minutes from Mawimbi and has both outdoor and indoor dining. Be prepared to walk up 2 flights of steep stairs for a delicious dining experience.

For dessert our favorite – Tiramisu.

Very tasty Tacos al pastor.

We stumbled across Las Tostadas de Coyoacán one evening: a road-side food trailer offering fresh cooked taco fillings. A popular eatery as all plastic tables and chairs were filled with customers enjoying their food with cerveza. I could not resist the pork especially when sliced fresh off the roast spit. Marinated in vinegar and spices tacos al pastor is a dish you don’t want to miss.

On our last evening in Holbox we went next door to Casa las Tortugas for a late snack at Mandarina restaurant. The only disappointment – not eating at this restaurant earlier.

Sauteed shrimp in orange brandy and star anise sauce – total ecstasy – I’m addicted.

Stay stewed for more travel stewings.
